ExCEL Program Accepting Applications

The Excellence in Care and Early Learning (ExCEL) program is accepting applications from child care centers in Richland County that would like to receive training and technical assistance to enhance the quality of care they provide to young children.

Richland County child care centers open for more than one year may apply to be on the ExCEL Enhancement Team. Participating centers will receive:

  • Free DSS certified staff trainings
  • Annual ExCEL conference
  • Technical Assistance(TA) for 2 classes (includes pre/post assessment, weekly visits from a TA provider, and health and safety information for children and parents from Nurse Consultant)
  • Classroom materials ($500 for 2 classrooms based on TA pre-assessment. Additional materials may be provided up to $1000 per class if center completes all training requirements and funds are available)
  • A spot on the Directors’ Team for center director (details below)

The Directors’ Team is especially for directors/owners of Richland County child care centers and family home providers. Directors’ Team participants will receive:

  • 1.5-hr lunchtime trainings designed just for child care directors/owners and family providers
  • Directors’ Retreat
  • The opportunity to network with other leaders in the child care field

The Consulting Team is for centers that need specific technical assistance (TA) or would like help to continue the work they began as a member of the Enhancement Team. Consulting Team members will receive:

  • Monthly consultation with an ExCEL TA provider
  • Membership in the Directors’ Team
  • Free DSS certified training (if space is available)

The program year for ExCEL team participation is July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020. All applications must be received by May 31, 2019 at 5 pm. After the applications have been reviewed, finalists will be contacted by June 8.

Selection criteria: Though not required for participation, priority for placement on the Enhancement Team will be given to centers that meet any or all of the following criteria:
